Are Chia and Subja same and provide same benefits?

Are Chia and Subja same and provide same benefits?

Chia seeds and Sabja seeds (also known as basil seeds or tukmaria) are different, although they share some similarities. Both seeds come from different plants and have distinct characteristics, but they are often confused due to their appearance when soaked.

Chia Seeds:

  • Origin: Chia seeds come from the Salvia hispanica plant, which is native to Central and South America.
  • Texture: When soaked in liquid, chia seeds develop a gel-like coating, giving them a soft and chewy texture.
  • Nutritional Profile: Chia seeds are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, protein, and various vitamins and minerals.

Sabja Seeds (Basil Seeds or Tukmaria):

  • Origin: Sabja seeds come from the sweet basil plant (Ocimum basilicum), which is native to Southeast Asia.
  • Texture: Like chia seeds, Sabja seeds also develop a gel-like coating when soaked, but they have a slightly crunchier texture compared to chia seeds.
  • Nutritional Profile: Sabja seeds contain some fiber, iron, and other nutrients but are generally not as nutrient-dense as chia seeds.

Weight Reduction: Both chia seeds and Sabja seeds may contribute to weight reduction through their ability to absorb water and create a feeling of fullness. Additionally, the fiber content in these seeds can aid digestion and promote a healthy gut, which may indirectly support weight management efforts.

Health Benefits: While both chia seeds and sabja seeds offer health benefits, there are some distinctions. Chia seeds are particularly recognized for their omega-3 fatty acid content, which is not as pronounced in sabja seeds. On the other hand, sabja seeds are often praised for their cooling properties, making them popular in drinks during hot weather.

So, What should you have Chia or Subja ?

Well!!!.its an individual choice and depends upon the season (Subja can be better in hot season due to its cooling nature) and your health goals. But, Chia seems to be a clear winner since it provide the nutrients and the fibers necessary for weight loss.
